Subject: HIGH-RISE SCENARIO - FEBRUARY 24, 2007

On Saturday, February 24, 2007, Vancouver Fire & Rescue participated in two separate high-rise fire scenarios at 666 Burrard St. "Park Place".  This event provided a learning opportunity for approximately 90 fire fighters.  The Training Division worked hard to ensure this exercise would contain elements and complexities similar to a high-rise fire incident.  Division Chief Bob Chapman and his Training Officers are to be commended for their facilitation and organizational skills.

Our Officers and fire fighters performed their duties extremely well as this was commented several times by the exercise evaluators including Curtis Massey, a specialist in high-rise scene management.   Both these exercises revealed several challenges for our organization, valuable lessons to go forward with.

We will build on the success of this experience by scheduling two high-rise fire exercises each year.   Again, many, many thanks to all who participated including E-Comm Fire Dispatch, Captain Reg Watts of Pre-fire planning, Inspector Mike Knapp of Fire Prevention and Chief Chapman and our Training Officers.
